Name this Picture

meteora 1 (Small).jpg

This beautiful picture is from Meteora in Central Greece. Meteora is a cluster of 6 monasteries built on top of magnificent rocks and cliffs by hermit monks who originally just lived in hollows and fissures in the rock towers. The monasteries were built as a result of the Turkish invasion in the 14th century as a way to protect and isolate the monks from an attack since the only access into the monasteries was through long ladders or nets that could be retreated. Originally more than 20 monasteries were built.

Greece in February

While we're all trying to survive the winter months here in the Pacific Northwest, let's see what kind of weather is typical for Greece this time of year.

The mainland weather is cold and wet (sound familiar?) and snow can be found in the mountains and in the villages at the higher elevations. While the weather on the islands and the coastal towns is also cold, wet and windy, there are the occasional sunny and more pleasant days.

The weather channel's forecast for Athens for the first week of February is cloudy with light rain and temperatures in the forties with lows down to 32 degrees.

But....if you do find yourself in Greece this time of year, there are some great Mardi Gras and pre-lent festivities to have fun at in cities like Athens, Patras and Xanthi.

January Parties!

Ringing in 2012 has been a lot of fun as January started off the year with a running start. Even though the holidays are over, we found plenty of reasons to celebrate with birthday parties and fun times with family and friends just getting together for a meal. Pictured below you'll see George celebrating his birthday with his family and friends. Also, back to celebrate their one year anniversary was Alyssa and Brandon, who held their wedding reception here with us just one year ago! How the time flies....
