SANTORINI PARADISE

Santorini boasts as being the most popular and well recognized of all the Greek Isles. Its beauty, amazing water views and magnificent sunsets are part of its claim to fame as people from all over the world travel there to partake in this natural beauty.
Also knows as the island of Thira, it is the southern most island in the Cycladic group in the Aegean Sea, just north of Crete and covers about 73 sq kilometers in surface area. The population is roughly 13,600 people that live among 13 villages.
The crescent shape of the island is due to huge volcanic activity that occurred in prehistoric times. The last major eruption dates back 3,600 years ago and is allegedly responsible for burying one of the most prosperous pre-historic cities, Atlantis, as well as creating Santorini's current crescent shape. The caldera of the volcano actually lies under the water!
The climate on Santorini is very dry with continuous sunshine year-round, lending itself to many outdoor activities or just sitting and enjoying the view. One can find great accommodations, restaurants and shops in the capital city of Fira. Fira along with Oia are famous for their volcano views and sunsets. Oia has been called "the village on the top of the world" and is located on the northern tip of Santorini island.
The tourist season runs from May to October but the busiest months are July and August.
