EXPLORING GREECE: THE PLAKA

Plaka, Athens

In the shadow of the Parthenon and Acropolis Mountain is a neighborhood full of food and history called Plaka! This preserved part of Athens is the only part of the city that existed in the ancient centuries that has remained virtually untouched from modern construction. This little neighborhood boasts of great food, shops and great places for locals and tourists alike to stroll through. For most of the year, you can sit outside to enjoy your meal while observing the hustle and bustle of people making their way to the ice cream parlors, jewelry shops, cafes and cocktail bars. Plaka is laid out like a semicircle terrace around the Acropolis and the bars and restaurants are arranged according to the type of food and drink being served making it a fun and easy place to explore.
