Join us in celebrating Father's Day this year!  We will be opening at 8AM and serving breakfast until noon and then will be featuring our dinner menu from noon to closing.  Reservations recommended.

Sonora Louise Smart Dodd, of Spokane, Washington, started the tradition of Father's Day in honor of her dad.  The first local Father's Day was celebrated in Spokane on June 19, 1910.

"Fatherhood is pretending the present you love most is soap-on-a-rope."  Bill Cosby

In 1900, fathers could count on children to join the family business.  Today, fathers pray their kids will soon come home from college long enough to teach them how to work the computer and set the VCR.

Olive Oil in the Mediterranean Diet

In the 1960's, it was found that the people of Crete consumed a great deal of salt and fat, but lived longer than people in other parts of the world with similar diets.  The people of Crete had a longer life span as well as lower rates of stroke, stomach cancer, heart disease, and other cancers.  Researchers noticed that overall, people living in countries around the Mediterranean had a lower incidence of heart disease despite their intake of mono-unsaturated fats, such as olive oil.  This lead to investigations into what is known as the "Mediterranean diet", of which olive oil is a major part.  Olive oil is extracted by pressing or crushing olives and come in different varieties depending on the amount of pressing involved.  Varieties include extra virgin (1st pressing), virgin (2nd pressing), pure and extra light.
